I love my sister and not because she's the only sister I have. I love her for who she is, who she will become, and how much she lets me lean on her. I love my sister because she accepts me for me. I will love my sister for all the days. She is mine forever.
My sister is the only one who would squish my hand really hard while crossing Irving Park Road going to the park. I love her for that. My sister is the only one who makes me tomato chutney. I love her for that, too. My sister is the only one who, at times, I miss more than Grandpa. She is never far away, though. My sister calls me to see how my baby is and how I'm feeling, regularly. She bought me my first maternity outfit, along with my mom. My sister (and brother) taught me how to read. I still love to read and I do it every day. We have intelligent discussions. My sister (and brother) taught me how to walk. My sister held me tight when I broke my nose the first time and she never let me out of her sight. My sister took me to get my ears pierced for the first time when I was twelve. She helped me pick out my first studs.
My sister teaches me about motherhood every time we speak. She shares everything she knows about pregnancy, childbirth, and raising kids to prepare me for this new hat I'll be wearing. She answers my questions and puts my fears to rest. She knows what I'm feeling and she knows when I'm feeling it.
My sister is my comrade, my running mate, my angel. She can count on me as much as I can count on her. She and I look at the same stars in the sky at night. She knows I giggle at the words "Sippy Cup." She and I will conquer the world together because there's nothing that can stand in our way as long as we're together. We are family; we are friends.
We are so much more than sisters. We are unbreakable. We were meant to be in each other's lives. And we will love each other for all the days.
